“Making the Invisible Visible in Science” (MIVIS)
Zhonghua Primary School continually endeavour to improve our teaching practice to ensure that our pupils are learning well. Since 2015, our P3 Science Teachers are involved in a collaborative project with Teck Ghee Primary School and the National Institute of Education to improve teachers’ pedagogical and teaching skills through professional development programmes and the redesigning of curriculum.
The objective of the project is to enable teachers to design and deliver interesting Science lesson packages which will help pupils to learn better in teams and to stimulate critical thinking in the classroom with the use of mobile technologies. These are 21st century competencies needed for the future workforce.
The project consist of the Science teachers involved in the following activities :
- co-designing with NIE researchers lesson packages which foster collaborative learning and thinking routines in the classroom mediated by mobile technologies
- being observed by NIE researchers during the enactment of lessons
- practicing reflective practice with NIE researchers
- developing assessment measuring tools and using the assessment findings to improve students’ learning and instructional effectiveness
