Our junior and senior football school teams participated in the above-mentioned tournament. The Senior Team did well in the first round but fell short in making it to the second round of the tournament.

Sepak Takraw
The school’s Sepak Takraw team consisting of both the Junior and Senior boys represented ZPS in the National Inter-School Sepak Takraw Competition 2017. They certainly did the school proud by displaying Resilience, Discipline, Teamwork and Sportsmanship throughout the entire competition. Although both the Junior and Senior boys did not manage to go through to the next stage of the competition, the pupils felt that they had indeed benefitted from the great experience.

2017 South Zone Volleyball Championships Results
Zhonghua volleyball junior and senior girls’ teams did our school proud by winning top 4 positions in the South Zone Volleyball Championship. The volleyball players’ relentless trainings and “never say die” attitude contributed to their achievements.
The junior and senior boys’ teams tried their best but did not manage to get to the top 4 positions in the Zonal competition.

Academic Awards:
Good Progress Award for Chinese Language
The Chinese Language and Culture Fund has set up an award, named the ‘Good Progress Award for Chinese Language’, to encourage and reward Singaporean primary school students for their efforts in learning Chinese Language.

Tamil Spelling Bee Competition 2017
4
pupils from P5 took part in the Nationwide Tamil Spelling Bee Competition organized
by Mediacorp Tamil News and Current Affairs Division. The objective of this
competition is to instill love for Tamil Language and provide an opportunity to
use and spell Tamil words without errors in a fun way.

Primary Schools competed in the qualifying round on 22 February 2017. Zhonghua beat
44 schools to qualify for the quarter finals. In the quarter finals they competed
with 16 schools and progressed to semi-finals. In the semi-finals they competed
with 8 schools and emerged as one of the top 4 schools to qualify for the
finals.
Mediacorp
Tamil News crew came to Zhonghua Primary on 23 March 2017 to interview and film
their preparation for the finals. The interview was aired on Vasantham channel
Tamil news that day.
Finals
at National Level
The
finals was held on 25 March 2017 at Umar Pullavar Tamil Language Centre. They went
through many rounds of spelling various words individually and in groups. Our
participants’ diligence and resilience paid off and they came second in the finals.

Non-Academic Awards and Recognition:
Friends of Singa 2016 - Projects chosen to be displayed (Most heart-warming community service projects)
In 2016, the FOS team organized a Parents’ Appreciation cum Charity Donation project as well as writing appreciation cards to thank our school cleaners. Our school’s Friends of Singa 2016 project was selected to be featured in the Friends of Singa exhibition and programme booklet under the category, “Most Heart-Warming Community Service Projects”. The exhibition was held at Cathay Cineleisure Orchard, Atrium from 11-13 November 2016.
SEC-Starhub School Green Awards (SGA) 2016
The school participated in the Singapore Environment Council - StarHub School Green Awards (SGA) 2016 at the end of September. The award is designed as an environmental audit programme for all schools in Singapore. Zhonghua Primary School was awarded the Lotus Sustained Achievement Award. It is the 5th year running, the school has achieved the highest level of award, the Lotus Award and has also maintained the level of Sustained Achievement Award for the 3rd time.
North East District Environment Award 2016
The school participated in the North East District Environment award 2016 at the end of August. This award by the North East Community Development Council (NE CDC) and National Environment Agency –recognizes community-led efforts in the creation and execution of sustainable programmes to create a Clean and Green North East District. Zhonghua Primary School has been awarded the Gold Award (3rd prize) for the above award in the school category.
Indian Dance Performance at the Ministry of Health
Our Indian Dance CCA received accolades for their wonderful performance during the the Ministry of Health’s Annual Deepavali Celebration. This was held on 16 November 2016. This event was graced by the Minister of Health and other Public Office Holders.
