FAQ for Parents on Supporting Your Child on HBL 2021
Frequently Asked Questions on Supporting Your Child for HBL
1. | What time will my child begin his/ her HBL daily? |

For students in Primary 4 – Primary 6, they will begin their HBL at 8am daily. For students in Primary 1 – Primary 3, they will begin their HBL from 12pm – 4pm daily. | |
2. | Does my child need to follow the plan listed in the weekly timetable? |
All students are encouraged to follow the timetable because breaks and a variety of subjects have been planned to keep them engaged. Following a timetable will help your child to stay organised and focused. | |
3. | What if I have more than 1 child who needs to do HBL? There is only 1 computer at home. |
All students are encouraged to follow the timing given to them to ensure that the online traffic do not jam up. However, if you have more than 1 child who needs to do HBL and they need to share a computer, they can take turns to use the computer. The online learning assignments will be posted online and available for the entire day. | |
4. | Where can I get the lessons that have been planned for the day? |
The lessons planned for the day will be posted on your child’s individual Student Learning Space (SLS) account. It will also be sent to you through Parent’s Gateway. | |
5. | What if the SLS Portal is unavailable? Or if my computer system breaks down? |
The daily lessons include online work which requires a computer and offline work which do not require a computer. These offline work may include work that can be done using textbooks or workbooks. | |
6. | What if my child encounter difficulties in his/ her work and I am not able to help him/ her? |
Your child can still get help in his/ her learning by emailing the subject teachers. The teachers are still working and will be able to support your child’s learning. 7. | Does my child need to report his/ her temperature daily? |
All students need to take responsibility for their own well-being and health. They should continue to take their own temperature twice a day to monitor their health. | |
8. | What if my child is unable to complete his/ her work for the day? |
Your child should write an email to his/ her subject teachers to explain why he/ she was unable to complete the work. The subject teachers will be able to advise your child or to provide support in order to help your child complete the work. | |
9. | What if my child has completed his/ her work much earlier? |
If your child completes his/ her work before HBL is over for the day, they are encouraged to engage in activities such as reading or journaling. These are the activities that students used to do when they had completed their work in class. | |
10. | Can I get my child to complete his HBL after I come back from work in the evening? |
We encourage students to use the opportunity of HBL to build independence and manage their learning. However, if there are challenges in doing so, you may write to your child’s FT to inform that submission of work will be done in the evening. |
